Know your rights
- Drivers are not allowed to refuse a fare regardless of distance unless the customer is extremely intoxicated or violent and aggressive. Please take the first vehicle on the rank.
- All Hackney carriage vehicles (Taxis) that are licensed by Braintree District Council as of the 17th December 2024 must legally offer the facility to take card payments and all vehicles must have a working card terminal at all times. My card terminal is not working is not an excuse, if this happens please report the driver/vehicle in question, using the link below.

The driver MUST start the taxi meter at the start of the journey and under no circumstances do you ever pay more then the meter displays at the end of your journey.
* 6am to 11pm – the meter must display tariff 1. Based on maximum of 4 passengers. * 11pm to 6am – the meter must display tariff 2. Based on maximum of 4 passengers.
- All drivers must be polite and courteous and conduct themselves with professionalism at all times.
- Vehicles must be clean and tidy at all times.

You will need the vehicles plate number, which is displayed on top left hand side of the drivers’ windscreen and also the white plate on the front and rear of the vehicles and the date and time of journey.
